Last weekend we went to the SoapFactory to see an art opening with 20 different local artists. I really like one of them, a photographer, and it takes a lot for me to like photographs. I sometimes feel like it's too easy, or what you're trying to say in a photo is too vague. Anyway when I got home I remembered her name and sent her an email saying to keep up the good work. The next day I got a reply that thanked me and asked in I was interested in collaboration with her, she'd been to my ...

I myself enjoy wearing knee-high, black dress socks. I only have one pair because they're hard to find these days so I will usually reserve them for a Monday when I don't really feel like getting up and going to work. Today was that day. Now I get to push them down and vigorously scratch my lower appendages. Awesome.

Yesterday I stopped in Precious Moment Herbs and Books to pick up some herbs for tea. I love that store because you walk in and it's the quintessential stereotype of a hippie/new age store, from the lingering smell of incense to the aging hippies who work there to the well-thumbed through display rack of tarot decks. I never went there until this summer, since I don't need to stock up on my wiccan supplies I just assumed they didn't have anything I would want. So Friday I got up and got dressed for work and thought my outfit needed a little extra. So I grabbed one of Rachel's old seventies scarves and tied it around my neck. Yes I looked very hipster. I have never worn a scarf before, aside from working on a roof or in a garden. Rachel told me not to wear it, said it looked silly. I rode my bike to work and noticed a lot of people staring at me. I thought, you cannot handle my hipness can you? I got on the elevator and this old guy in a ...

Then I put a cold egg wash on the top of them (which really, I knew better) and they immediately fell... like a good inch or so. So, now I know not to do that again, trial and error, as they say, trial and error. But they still taste great, nothing like warm bread right out of the oven with ...

Saturday, with two friends, we went to the pharmacy and bought three kites and like samurai we biked with them wrapped up and shoved down the backs of our shirts. Swords they were as we fiercely attacked the day. We found an empty baseball field, next to teams of fully uniformed Africans playing cricket. The sky was blue and warm, the breeze was cool and strong. Our kites flew and crashed together and we ran around to untangle them while they hung in the air. It was the best sort of challenge.

This summer was the first time I discovered this wonderful state park that is only about 45 minutes away from my apartment home in Minneapolis.
My daily awesome for today was when getting drinks with two friends Rachel and I hadn't seen for a while, one of them told me how he had spent the last week in the country setting up these 5 acres for an artist retreat. They moved up a kiln and in September they would be dismantling an old A-frame given to them by some park and transporting it and reconstructing it on this land they hope to develop. I like hard physical work, it makes me feel useful. I'd like to have the freedom to take off ...

Last night I went to see "Little House on the Prairie, the Musical," starring Melissa Gilbert (the original Laura herself) as "Ma Ingalls". Now, that alone could be enough of a daily awesome to cover an entire month. However, just to sweeten the evening, as three friends and I were enjoying dinner before the show an older woman came over to our table. She paused, just briefly enough to say, "I just want to let you ladies know you look wonderful, every one of you." ...

The Secret City

Finding and watching old episodes of "The Secret City with Commander Mark" on youtube. It was a drawing show for kids on PBS in the 1980's, I've been looking for it for a while. This show blew my mind when I was little, and I think I can safely say made me the artist I am today.

Temporary Job Promotion

Yesterday I was informed by my boss that a new case would be starting up at the end of the week and that they wanted to temporarily promote me to assist the 30 new temps. When I started this job a year ago I didn't want any type of promotion or new set of responsibilities, I didn't want to be that invested in "some office job downtown". Now I'm coming around. And that's okay.

First, I had a great conversation with a friend during which she compared us and our relationships to a lite brite, which was the first I believe I've ever heard the lite brite used in an analogy.

Second, I ran into two people I haven't spoken to in quite a while within the span of one hour and one city block. I enjoyed seeing them both.

My daily awesome is that yesterday I got together with some friends and cooked ribs in the backyard. And before that I rode my bicycle to meet them and it felt nice to head out of the city and be on less busy rodes. That's all.
